Every calculator, in one list.
Pay and tax
Income tax calculator
Hospital salary plus private work and locum income. Medicare levy, the extra surcharge if you have no hospital cover, and HELP debt if you still have it.
Full-time dial
Slide from full-time to 0.4. Take-home, the hourly rate after tax, super, HELP debt and Division 293 over $250,000. One locum shift a month uses the rate you type.
Locum or salary
The hourly rate that matches a salaried year's take-home plus employer super, after unpaid weeks and indemnity. Not a reason to invoice.
Salary packaging
The usual public-hospital living and meal amounts, what that does to HELP debt, and how South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia treat super differently.
Novated lease
The lease comes off one salary. Tax uses your total income. If the employer pays part of it, that share comes out of the saving.
Award pay by state
Ordinary-hours base from the state agreement, by grade. Overtime, allowances and penalties are not included.
Public hospital benefits
Award pay, leave, sick leave, long service and study time. Intern, resident, registrar or staff specialist, in each state. Regional extras where the agreement states them.
Income by specialty
What the tax office recorded, not the salary on the job ad. Average, median and headcount. Not split into public and private.
What the job costs
Registration and college fees. Training beside consultant, for the major specialties.
Appendicectomy fee
The 2026 Medicare schedule fee and the 75% in-hospital rebate, next to older fees in today's dollars.
Practice break-even
Overheads, a service-fee percentage, consults and average billing. Cash in against cash out. Not profit, and not payroll tax.
Super
Hospital fund, HESTA, or an SMSF
The same employer super and the same concessional contributions. The hospital default, HESTA, or an SMSF (self-managed super fund). South Australia can switch on Triple S.
Extra super in private practice
Company salary or contractor. How much concessional contributions room is left after the employer's 12%, including unused room from earlier years, and Division 293 once income is over $250,000.
Tax if super is over $3 million
Extra tax on earnings tied to super above $3 million, and a bit more above $10 million. Law from 1 July 2026. Not your tax assessment.
Compare super funds
HESTA, Aware, Australian Retirement Trust, GESB, Triple S and AustralianSuper. One-year and ten-year returns, then the same lump sum in each default option.
Super, the loan, or the offset
The same spare cash in three places: extra super before tax, a bigger home-loan repayment, or sitting in the offset. There is no single right answer.
Where the next dollar goes
Concessional contributions room, Division 293 if income is over $250,000, non-concessional contributions, and an offset or outside investments. Side by side, not a ranking.
When you can use your super
From your date of birth: the age you can access super, 65, and the Age Pension age. Not a payment, and not how much you get.
Taking money from super
What the balance looks like if markets are poor at the start, including the legal minimum you must take out. Not a pension quote.
Property
Mortgage
Change the interest rate, add extra each month, or drop in a lump sum. See what's left on the loan, and the interest you skip.
Interest-only, then principal
What you pay while it is interest-only, then the higher repayment after. Extra interest versus paying the loan down from the start.
Switching the loan
Two rates, years left, and the cost to leave. How many months until that cost comes back. Not a reason to switch.
Pay the home loan, then invest
One round: spare cash onto the home loan, then the same amount borrowed again to invest. Which interest you can claim, and which you can't.
What a house costs to hold
The home you live in, or an investment. Land tax, council, insurance and the rest. The Northern Territory has no land tax.
Rental loss
Rent in, interest and holding costs out. The loss set against your salary, or left inside the property.
Rent vs buy
Stamp duty, land tax, the doctor waiver on lenders' insurance, and tax if you sell. Compared with putting the same cash in shares.
Investing
Compare a mix of shares
Starting money, what you add each month, and a mix that adds up to 100%. These are assumed returns, not a forecast.
If you'd invested
Pick a year and an amount. Cash, gold, Australian shares, the US market and HESTA, in Australian dollars, up to today. Saved figures, not a live price.
Weekly market closes
Australian shares, the US market and the Nasdaq. The last completed Friday. Not a live price.
What fees cost you
Same balance, same return. A cheap fund (0.10%), a typical one (0.80%) and an expensive one (1.50%) over 30 years.
Family costs
Doctor budget
Take-home pay, then housing, school, indemnity, AHPRA and college. Locum tax that was not taken out of the payment.
What's left this month
Pay in, tax and super out, then the mortgage and living costs. What's left to save.
When the pay jumps
What's left as a registrar, and what's left in the first consultant year, after the new fixed costs.
Investing for a child
The same money in your name, the child's name, an investment bond, or a trust. How a child's investment income is taxed. Not a product to buy.
Private school fees (2026)
Published 2026 annual fees from each school’s own schedule, ordered by state then name. Not a ranking.
Credit cards
Put in what you spend each month. Points, travel credit, the annual fee and overseas fees, in a list you can sort. Not a credit recommendation.
Phone plans
Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Belong, Boost and ALDI. How much data you need, and how many days you are overseas. Coverage for locum towns versus the city.
Wills and super
Australia has no inheritance tax. Super, the house and aged care are the usual list. Links open the tax office and state sites.
Payday split
Net pay in. Percentages you set for bills, offset, investing and fun. Dollars for that pay. Nothing is stored.
Work
Jobs
Specialty, state, where it is, pay and conditions. You apply on the site the ad came from.
If the premium jumps
Cover that pays if you can't do your own job, versus total-and-permanent disability inside super. You set how much the premium rises. Not a quote.
Pay and a house, other cities
New Zealand, Canada, the US and the UK, next to Sydney and Melbourne. Pay before tax, pay after tax, and a typical house price.
Moving to Australia
Registration, a visa, and a job — three separate steps. New Zealand, the UK and India. Medical Board and AMC fees, with links to the official pages.
